The Cabin Project, Portland’s own musical hybrid of folk-rock and indie, releases its 7th album, The Wonder.

This record brings a new dimension to the project, cultivating the dynamic elements and harmonic depth that has long-defined the group. The record begins deep in the woods of the Pacific NW, a reflection on Sawicki’s last four years, and the highs and lows that life and its relationships can bring. From the lowest point, through recovery, to the reemerging and discovery of our animals within. The band gifts the songs with arrangements and instrumentation, allowing the listener to reconnect to forgiveness, renewal, and the land around us.

On The Wonder, The Cabin Project sounds both seasoned and newly searching, expanding the rhythmic complexity and orchestral vision the band has developed for fifteen years. Rooted in the forests and emotional terrain of the Pacific Northwest, the record traces band founder Katie Sawicki’s passage across turbulent times—from ruptures of life and relationships, through the uncertain work of recovery, to the gradual return of wonder.

Across the album, rupture gives way to renewal. The songs invite listeners toward forgiveness, toward the instinctive parts of us that survive beneath hardship, and toward a more attentive relationship with the land around us. Rather than treating recovery as a neat ending, The Wonder makes room for its complexity: grief and joy, vulnerability and resilience, disorientation and a return to belonging.

The album embodies a broad, deep, and emotionally expansive journey in sound and lyricism. Sawicki is joined by longtime drummer and percussionist Zanny Geffel, Kelly Clifton on melodic bass, Mieke Bruggeman on atmospheric woodwinds, and returning original member Adam Sweeney on guitar. Together, they give the songs a dynamic architecture of doubled vocals, three-part harmonies, orchestral colors, and propulsive rhythmic shifts.
